Pathfinder 25oz. Stainless Steel Cup and Lid Set
Nesting is usually thought of as something birds do in the spring... unless you're an avid outdoorsman. If you are, the idea of nesting keeps you up at night, trying to figure out how to cram all of the gear you need into as little space as possible. We revel in glee when something fits inside another piece of gear, and readily share our trophy accomplishment with the rest of the world. It's a fun and wild pursuit.
One of the biggest things we are always looking to make smaller is our cook kit. Pots, bottles and the like take up a SERIOUS amount of room in a pack, never mind your haversack! We begrudgingly give up these precious square inches of space because being able to have safe drinking water and hot chow are some of the most important things to our very survival in the bush. As long as I have been pursuing this idea, Dave Canterbury has had the best solution and I am proud to carry it in the shop.
This stainless cook kit is perfect for the solo traveler, or as a haversack kit for quick lunch stops along the way when getting your full kit out of your bag just doesn't make sense. Paired with the Pathfinder Bottle Hanger also available in the shop, this set will allow you to cook over the fire either by direct contact with coals, or hung over the flames to quickly boil or slowly simmer your meal, tea, etc...
The cup slides perfectly over a Clean Canteen 40oz bottle, which means there is no wasted space in your pack. The lid can stow under the whole affair, and includes slots for a bail or bottle hanger, as well as a D ring to pull the lid off with a stick, multitool or what have you. Strainer holes allow you to drain pasta, vegetables or anything else and eat right out of the cup so there are no extra dishes to carry. The batwing handles fold away for a more compact storage, but also fold out like a full mug to safely hold your hot cup of heaven.
The stainless steel construction is food grade, and durable enough to survive the apocalypse. Being made of stainless steel also means you don't have to be as attentive to cooking the cup empty as you would with aluminum (which can actually burn holes through the pot if so done).
I have been carrying one of these for a few years now, and wouldn't be caught in the woods without it! Safe drinking water is a must in the back-country, and having a pot to boil in means safe water just about anywhere I could find fresh water.
Make sure you're ready for the trail! It doesn't always take a backpack full of gear, but just a few of the right choices. This is one of those.
